Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, which is based on the fixed stars in the sky. One of the key differences between Vedic astrology and Western astrology is their use of different zodiac systems. Western astrology was traditionally used for predicting future events and character analysis. The Greek philosopher Ptolemy is credited with laying the foundation for modern Western astrology in his book Tetrabiblos, which was written in the 2nd century CE. Western astrology, on the other hand, originated in ancient Greece and Rome around 2,500 years ago. Vedic astrology was traditionally used to determine auspicious times for important events, such as marriages, and to offer guidance on personal and spiritual matters. The earliest references to Jyotish can be found in the Vedas, the sacred texts of Hinduism, which date back over 5,000 years. The origins of Vedic astrology can be traced back to ancient India, where it was known as Jyotish. In this essay, I will explore the differences between these two systems in detail. Vedic astrology and Western astrology are two distinct systems of astrology, each with its own unique history, methods, and interpretations.
